Cardinals 35, Eagles 31: Kyler Murray’s 3 TD passes lead to huge upset win in Philly

The Arizona Cardinals went into Philadelphia and dominated the Eagles on Sunday in Week 17. Kyler Murray threw three touchdown passes and James Conner rushed for 128 yards and scored twice as the offense kept Jalen Hurts and company off the field, beating the Eagles 35-31.

They dominated time of possession 39:39 to 20:21. They scored a season-high 35 points and outgained Philly 449 yards to 275.

They overcame a pick-six in the first quarter scored on all four second-half possessions.

The Cardinals forced a three-and-out on defense to start the game and then moved the ball offensively. Trey McBride had a 25-yard catch to start the drive, Greg Dortch and Elijah Higgins each had third-down catches and Kyler Murray ran for a first down.

However, Murray had a negative run on first-and-goal and Emari Demercado dropped a third-down pass and the Cardinals had to settle on a 28-yard field goal to take the lead.

James Conner had 24 rushing yards in the drive.

Kyler Murray threw an interception in the red zone that Sidney Brown returned 99 yards for a touchdown.

They had moved the ball into the red zone and Murray signaled something to rookie receiver Michael Wilson before the play. Wilson cut inside as Murray was throwing the ball to the front pylon. Brown was the only player there to catch it and ran it back.

Eagles 14, Cardinals 6

The Cardinals got in the red zone again but failed to find the end zone. They had a false start and had to settle on a field goal, this time from 34 yards out.

The Cardinals were dominating time of possession at that point, 21:32 to 6:38.

Julio Jones TD again! Eagles 21, Cardinals 6

The Eagles scored with 16 seconds left in the second quarter to take a 21-6 lead. Julio Jones scored his second touchdown of the game on a 22-yard pass from Jalen Hurts. Andre Chachere tipped the pass but it still got to Jones.

The Eagles got in position with a fake quarterback sneak that was a pass from running back Kenneth Gainwell to receiver DeVonta Smith for 17 yards.

Michael Carter drive and TD! Eagles 21, Cardinals 13

The Cardinals opened up the second half moving the ball as well as they did in the first half. Michael Carter was featured with runs of 16 and 22 yards, and then Kyler Murray threw a six-yard touchdown to Carter to complete the 10-play, 75-yard drive that took 6:18 to start the second half.

D.J. Humphries hurt

Cardinals tie game 21-21

The Cardinals forced a punt and then tied the game. Murray led them on a nine-play, 77-yard drive that ended with a five-yard touchdown pass to James Conner.

Murray completed the two-point try to Michael Wilson to make it 21-21.

The Cardinals tried to surprise the Eagles with an onside kick. The Eagles recovered the kick and, thanks to an 18-yard catch by A.J. Brown, got into field-goal range.

A holding penalty set them back 10 yards but Jake Elliott hit a 43-yard field goal to give them the lead.

James Conner TD! Cardinals 35, Eagles 31

Greg Dortch’s 36-yard catch got the Cardinals to the five-yard line and, two plays later, James Conner’s two-yard touchdown run gave the Cardinals the lead, this third score of the game.
