Cardinals brought in Memphis RB Darrell Henderson for official visit

The Arizona Cardinals have wrapped up their official prospect visits in preparation for the 2019 NFL draft next week, but some names of those prospects are still coming out. One particularly interesting prospect who reportedly was brought in by the team is Memphis running back Darrell Henderson.

The report comes from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Cardinals were one of many teams to show interest in the prospect.

What makes this a bit surprising is the position — a running back. Henderson is one of the top running back prospects in the draft. The Cardinals already have David Johnson and drafted Chase Edmonds, a player they are very high on, last season. Potentially using a high pick on that position would be a surprise considering the monetary investment made into Johnson.

Of course, Johnson underperformed in 2018 and missed 15 games in 2017 so perhaps they are simply preparing themselves in case he struggles again in 2019.

Henderson rushed for 1,909 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2018, averaging 8.9 yards per attempt. He rushed for more than 1,100 in 2017 as well with the same rushing average per attempt.

He is 5-foot-8, 208 pounds and is explosive. He ran the 40 in 4.41 seconds at the combine, had a 33.5-inch vertical leap and 10-foot-1 broad jump to go along with 22 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press.
