Cardinals asking for similar deal for DeAndre Hopkins as they got in 2020

The Arizona Cardinals are shopping wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Nothing has materialized yet but we know approximately what the asking price.

While previously reported as “a premium Day 2 pick and more” has been defined slightly further.

SI.com’s Albert Breer reports that the Cardinals are seeking “a second-rounder plus something else of value” or “similar to what the Texans got for DeAndre Hopkins” in 2020.

The Cardinals’ deal with the Texans was getting Hopkins and a fourth-round pick in exchange for a second-rounder, a fourth-rounder and running back David Johnson.

The deal was essentially two trades in one.

The Texans got Johnson for a 2020 fourth-round pick and the Cardinals got Hopkins for a 2020 second-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round selection.

Hopkins wants to play for a team that can win this season. The Cardinals want a second-rounder and something else, whether it is a future pick or a player they could use.

The Patriots, Chiefs and Cowboys often come up in possible destinations.

Can the Cardinals get their asking price? Will they lower it if they can’t or would they keep him and try again at the trade deadline?

We won’t know until draft day. If nothing happens before then, it would appear that Hopkins will play for the Cardinals.
