Cardiff today - The Vulcan listing bid fails plus Stuart Cable funeral invite for fans

Good morning Cardiff!

Tonight new Cardiff-based record label Barely Regal Records will be showcasing a few of their acts at Cardiff Arts Institute. It starts at 8pm, and it's free.

In the news today, the Assembly Government will announce the provision of £1m in funding for seven new mobile breast screening units to replace Wales' ageing fleet. The units visit approximately 100 locations across Wales and screen more than 100,000 women a year.

The Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones AM has ruled out listing The Vulcan pub, to the disappointment of Save The Vulcan campaigners, reports YourCardiff.

Fans of Stuart Cable have been invited by his family to line the route to the church in Aberdare where his funeral will take place next Monday, reports BBC Wales.

The Cardiff 10k launch took place yesterday. Shane Williams opened the event, which will take place on Sunday September 12. You can enter here.

A new fishing and picnic area on the banks of the river Ely has opened. The site has been created with disabled access and cycle stands, and adds to the other four purpose-built angling platforms just above Penarth road.
