Cardiff marketing agency launches black, Asian and ethnic minority group internship

Cardiff-based PR and marketing agency Cowshed has launched a new internship initiative for black, Asian and ethnic minority groups.

The firm is providing two people with 12 weeks of paid experience.

The successful applicants will work with the firm's growing client base, that include  Welsh Government, Public Health Wales, FOR Cardiff, National Adoption Service, National Trust, Comic Relief and the Open University in Wales.

The aim will be to offer permanent roles after the interships.

Since launching five years ago, Cowshed has grown from a team of one to fifteen permanent staff with revenues of £1.25m.

Vicki Spencer-Francis, managing director of Cowshed, said: ‘We celebrate our fifth birthday this year and wanted to mark the occasion with a strong move to make sure we deliver campaigns that are truly representative of modern Wales.

"Our clients deserve that and the different societies that make up Wales deserve that too.

“I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved in the past five years,  but we miss the diversity of thinking, skills and experience that a more representative team could bring and this needs to change.

"How can we expect to speak to the people of Wales if we, ourselves, don’t represent the diverse spectrum of life that is modern day Wales?”

Cowshed has teamed up with the Race Council Cymru to deliver the internship.

Uzo Iwobi of the council said: “We are delighted to partner with Cowshed to launch this opportunity for young people from diverse backgrounds.

"We encourage young people from all backgrounds to apply and be a part of this life changing initiative. ”
