A man who survived a car crash in Cardiff which left three dead has released an emotional statement from hospital. Shane Loughlin, 32, was one of two survivors following the crash on the A48 in St Mellons last Saturday (March 4).
Yesterday evening (March 10), a friend of Shane posted a message on Facebook on his behalf. He said he is "gutted" but thanked everyone involved in the search to find the vehicle.
As reported by Wales Online, the post read: "Only just found out what happened just want to say sorry to everyone and Thank you everyone who helped with the search party and thank you for everyone wishing me well I’ll be back soon love you all.

"Rip Rafel, Eve, and Darcy. Can’t believe it gutted is an understatement heart goes out to all families and friends of the people that has passed. Long way to recovery mentally and physically but we’ll get there."
The other survivor of the crash was 20-year-old Sophie Russon. Tragically, Eve Smith, 21, Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Darcy Ross, 21, were found dead nearly 48 hours after the crash.
South Wales Police recently concluded that the car was found just after midnight on Monday, March 6 after the collision took place at around 2am on Saturday, March 4. They say that no other vehicle was involved.
Following initial investigation work, police have confirmed that the white Volkswagen Tiguan vehicle left the carriageway into a wooded area. Post-mortem examinations are now taking place and the families of the three people who died are being supported by specialist officers.
Detectives investigating the fatal crash are now appealing for further information. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area or who may have been travelling east along the A48 Eastern Avenue between Cardiff and St Mellons.
Assistant chief constable Jason Davies said: "The investigation is making good progress in piecing together the events leading up to the collision. Specialist officers will continue to carry out a detailed investigation which will enable us to provide the facts of what happened during the early hours of Saturday morning.
“Our thoughts continue to be with the families and all those affected by this tragic incident. Family liaison officers are supporting the families involved at what must be a hugely difficult time for them.” Anyone with information can contact South Wales Police quoting occurrence 2300072969.
