Cardiff City transfer news as Cedric Kipre's West Brom future takes twist and Morison signs ex-Bluebird

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Monday, June 26

Kipre future twist?

The West Brom future of former Cardiff loan man Cedric Kipre appears to have taken a bit of a twist with news fellow Baggies centre-back Dara O'Shea has left The Hawthorns.

The Republic of Ireland international defender has signed for Burnley in a £7million deal - a decision he described as a "no-brainer".

“It’s a no brainer to come and want to work under someone like (Vincent Kompany)," he said. "His career as a player was outstanding and someone I would have looked up to as well coming through. I’m really excited to be here and I want to learn a lot from him and the coaching staff.

“Burnley were the outstanding team last season and achieved exceptional things. That’s down to a lot that was going on on the training ground.”

West Brom are out to balance the books this summer with Carlos Corberan having to ship players out; what this means for Kipre's future in the Midlands remains to be seen. He may well now be primed to remain with the Baggies, with our colleagues at BirminghamLive reporting he could be given a chance to impress Corberan over the course of pre-season.

Kipre was a big hit at Cardiff City Stadium last season but with the Bluebirds still not permitted to sign players for a fee this summer, and with the defender out of contract at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, another loan deal seems unlikely.

Morison signs Leahy

Steve Morison has snapped up former Cardiff youngster Jack Leahy for Hornchurch FC.

Attacker Leahy was among the players released by the Bluebirds at the end of last season and Morison has moved swiftly to sign the 20-year-old for the tier five side.

Morison said: “I’m really pleased to sign Jack Leahy and convince him to join Hornchurch FC. I believe he has the potential to be a real asset to our team and make a big impact on the pitch.

“Jack has great ability and I am confident that he will continue to develop and improve with us at Hornchurch FC. We will work hard to support him and help him reach his full potential as a player.

“I am looking forward to seeing him in action and seeing him contribute to our team’s success in the upcoming season. Welcome to the club, Jack."

Robinson: Don't be fooled!

Cardiff striker Callum Robinson has said "don't be fooled by the smiles!" after posting a picture of himself and fellow forward Kion Etete back in pre-season training.

The Bluebirds are today starting their second week back at the pump, with new boss Erol Bulut running the rule over his players ahead of their first pre-season friendly of the summer this weekend.

Robinson posted on Instagram: "1st week complete, don’t be fooled by the smiles @kionetete."

Supporters will be keen to see Robinson back in action for the Bluebirds next season after he missed the relegation run-in through injury.

Cardiff face Penybont FC at Cardiff City Stadium (3pm) on Saturday.
