Cardiff City sign Aston Villa starlet on loan as key relationship revealed

Cardiff City have completed the loan signing of Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa.

The Bluebirds were interested in the former England Under-20 international in January but were unable to strike a deal to sign the winger - who spent the second half of last season at Championship rivals Stoke City.

But Steve Morison has now landed one of his prime targets just four days before Cardiff kick-start their 2022/23 Championship campaign against Norwich City.

Bluebirds boss Steve Morison said: "I’m really happy. He’s someone we earmarked and looked at in January, but it wasn’t meant to be.

"We monitored him, and he became available this summer. We’ve got good relationships with a lot of clubs, so it was a deal that we wanted to do, and they wanted to do as well.

“Villa want to keep him on because they like him, so if he’s good enough for them, he’s good enough for us. It’s great for our depth, and great for competition.

"I’m excited with the wide players we have at our disposal now, and I think everyone else should be as well."

Discussing his move to South Wales, Philogene said: “I was on pre-season tour with Aston Villa and I got a call from my agent, who said that a few Championship clubs wanted me on loan.

"I heard Cardiff City were the club that really wanted me to come, and that’s why I came here. It’s a club with a big stadium, over 30,000, and I can’t wait to get started.

"I want to score goals and help my team-mates. I can’t wait to show the fans, my family and everyone else what I can do.”

The 20-year-old signed fresh terms with Steven Gerrard's Villa last year and is contracted to the Premier League side until the summer of 2024.
