Cardiff City next manager search: Mick McCarthy now odds-on favourite to take over

Mick McCarthy is now odds-on favourite to succeed Neil Harris at Cardiff City.

McCarthy boasts a strong pedigree in the Championship, having previously led Wolves and Sunderland to the Premier League, but has been out of work since the beginning of the year.

After stepping down from his post at the Republic of Ireland, McCarthy lasted just eight games in charge of Cypriot side APOEL, losing five games before parting company with the club.

Harris, meanwhile, was dismissed from his post at the Bluebirds on Thursday afternoon after overseeing a rotten run of six consecutive defeats.

According to SkyBet, McCarthy is 4/7 on to replace him, while previous favourites Paul Cook and Tony Pulis have drifted to 10/1 and 16/1 respectively.

Former Reading boss Mark Bowen has seen his odds slashed to 4/1, while fan favourite Craig Bellamy now stands at 9/1.

Fellow Welshman Mark Hughes is priced up at 12/1, while David Artell, who worked with new signing Perry Ng at Crewe, has also been tipped as an outside contender at 16/1, the same odds as Eddie Howe, Michael Flynn, Nigel Pearson and Bluebirds favourite Mark Hudson.
