Cardiff City hold talks with Aaron Ramsey over sensational homecoming

Cardiff City have held talks with Wales captain Aaron Ramsey over a sensational return to his boyhood club this summer.

Ramsey's contract at French club Nice was due to expire on June 30. The Ligue 1 side have unveiled Francesco Farioli as their new coach and he said: "There will be arrivals and departures. The next ten days will be crucial."

Last month 32-year-old Wales skipper Ramsey revealed that his next move would be governed by "reuniting" his family unit, who are based in the Welsh capital.

City chairman Mehmet Dalman has also been on record to state that the club would, of course, love to have one of its greatest-ever academy graduates seal a return, but that the ball was in the player's court over whether he would re-sign for the Bluebirds 15 years after he first left for Arsenal.

And things now appear to be coming to a head, with Ramsey and Cardiff understood to have held talks regarding his next steps and a potential homecoming this summer.

New Cardiff boss Erol Bulut has already confirmed that he spoke with Ramsey after the national team's defeat by Armenia at Cardiff City Stadium last month and on Saturday teased that a further meeting between them could potentially be in the offing.

Ramsey himself has admitted that he would "love" to return to Cardiff one day, but played a straight bat when he was asked if that would be this summer.

"They gave me an opportunity as a young boy and to go on and to become a professional," Ramsey said of Cardiff.

"I've always said that one day I'd love to go back there. I think there are a few things that need sorting out over the next few weeks, but the most important thing for me is to enjoy my time with family, and make the most important decision for us."

On Monday Ramsey teased fans by posting a picture on Instagram of him sitting at the club's Vale of Glamorgan training base with his boots on.

Ramsey also put a picture of himself at the Vale last week, the day his contract with Nice officially ran out.
