Cardi B cleared in $24 million security guard lawsuit

  • A jury has ruled in favour of Cardi B in a lawsuit brought by a security guard, Emani Ellis, who accused the rapper of assault during her first pregnancy.
  • The jury in Alhambra, California, deliberated for approximately one hour before finding Cardi B not liable for Ellis's claims of being cut with a fingernail and spat on in February 2018.
  • Cardi B vehemently denied physically touching Ellis, stating she was angry because she feared Ellis would reveal her then-secret pregnancy.
  • Ellis had sought damages, which Cardi B claimed amounted to an alleged $24 million, for humiliation, trauma, a facial scar requiring surgery, and lost wages.
  • Following the trial, Cardi B reacted strongly to a reporter's question about pregnancy rumours, accusing the reporter of being disrespectful and sexist.
