Car crashes on to Edinburgh railway line in 'high speed police' chase leaving passenger injured

A car reportedly involved in a high speed police chase in the early hours of this morning crashed onto a live railway line.

It is claimed by an eyewitness at the scene that the black vehicle was being pursued by cops at around 3am before allegedly going off the road and crashing onto the tracks near to Brunstane Station, Edinburgh .

A source told The Daily Record the driver reportedly fled from the car leaving his female passenger behind with serious injuries.

The woman is believed to have suffered a broken leg, while her other injuries are currently unknown.

The source said: "There was a high speed police chase  in the early of this morning.

"The car went off the road and down a banking landing between two live railways lines.

"The driver made off and left his injured girlfriend in the car. She suffered a broken leg."

Railways workers were reportedly called to the scene shortly after the incident to access the damage to the infrastructure and to cut the power on the line if needed.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
