Police said the driver stated he swerved to avoid a fox.

But they later confirmed he was driving without insurance and on a provisional licence.

No one else was reported injured.

Writing on Twitter on Saturday morning, GMP's traffic unit said: "Report of one vehicle road traffic collision on Manchester Road, Bolton, near to A666 exit.

"The driver stated he swerved to avoid a fox!

"Well the fox is OK...as for the car. Maybe not.

"Driver uninjured. Also found to be uninsured with a provisional licence. Reported and car awaiting recovery."

No further details were revealed.

No time for the crash was confirmed either.
