The latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), 'The Marvels,' has made its debut on Disney+, stirring mixed feelings among fans. Many are left wishing they had experienced the film's release in theaters, which could have potentially helped it avoid the unfortunate record of being the franchise's lowest-grossing movie. On a positive note, star Zawe Ashton recently shed some light on the changes made to the final cut of the Captain Marvel sequel.

In the climactic ending of 'The Marvels,' Captain Marvel (portrayed by Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau team up to confront Ashton's formidable villain, Dar-Benn. The gripping battle ultimately results in a tear in the multiverse, leading Monica to pass through the void and find herself in an entirely different universe, one inhabited by the beloved X-Men.

However, Ashton revealed that an alternate ending was initially filmed, one that could have potentially marked the end of Carol Danvers' storyline, played by Brie Larson. Speaking on ComicBook.com's Phase Zero podcast, Ashton shared that this alternative ending involved a dramatic showdown between her character and Larson's Captain Marvel in space. The scene was described as 'amazing' and required both actors to perform intricate wirework. Although the exact details of this ending remain mysterious, it's clear that plans for the film's conclusion were not set in stone.

Regardless of the alternative endings, it is highly likely that Carol Danvers' journey in the MCU would not have come to an abrupt halt. She would have undoubtedly returned at some point before the Multiverse Saga concluded, given her significance within the franchise.

As for Ashton's character, Dar-Benn, it was clear from the beginning that redemption was not in the cards. Ashton acknowledged this fact and emphasized the need for an epic death to bring closure to Carol's story. By eliminating Dar-Benn, Carol could release herself from the burden of guilt and potentially take on a new role or purpose.

Interestingly, Ashton shared that the character's demise originally involved a significant amount of water, requiring her to undergo a day of diving training. While the details surrounding this concept remain undisclosed, it hints at the potential intensity and grandeur of the original death scene.

Looking forward, many fans have been speculating about what lies ahead for Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), and Monica Rambeau. With Monica now traversing an alternate universe alongside a variant of her mother, Maria, and encountering what is likely to be the MCU's initial introduction of the X-Men, there is much to explore in their future storylines. Meanwhile, Carol and Kamala must address the aftermath of Monica's unexpected shift within the MCU timeline. These narrative threads are undoubtedly set to unravel and captivate audiences as the MCU continues to expand its ever-expanding universe.

For those eager to catch 'The Marvels,' the film is now available for streaming exclusively on Disney+. Although fans may have missed out on the cinematic experience, they can now enjoy the epic adventure from the comfort of their own homes.
