Caoimhin Agyarko sends classy message to fans after fight is cancelled

Caoimhin Agyarko sent a classy message to his fans after announcing that his fight with Peter Dobson was off.

The Belfast fighter has had to withdraw from the bout due to a hand injury.

Agyarko was scheduled to defend his WBA International title against New York’s Dobson in London on the undercard of Katie Taylor's big ring return.

However despite his disappointment, Agyarko is urging his fans to still attend the event and cheer on fellow Irish fighters Taylor and Gary Cully, as well as his stablemate Thomas Whittaker Hart.

But the 25-year-old has offered to refund any fans that bought tickets off him in they no longer want to go to the event, reports the Irish Mirror.

He said in a statement: "It is with huge disappointment and frustration that I have to announce I've had to withdraw from my fight next Saturday in London. I sustained some damage to my hand in camp that continued to deteriorate to the point where I've been unable to use it at all."

"My coach made the decision last night to withdraw me from the contest and I reluctantly agree with this. I was willing to fight still but after meeting with my coach and manager today, as a team they've decided this is the best course of action.

"For my travelling fans I want to apologise for this setback and short notice withdrawal. If you wish to apply for a refund and have bought tickets from me, please send me a direct message on Instagram.

"I'd strongly encourage you to still go to the show to support Katie Taylor, my friend Gary Cully and my gym stablemate Thomas Whittaker Hart who are all on the card. I will be getting a scan on my hand asap and look forward to returning to the ring early in 2023."
