Canelo Alvarez issues warning to Gennady Golovkin ahead of trilogy fight

Canelo Alvarez plans to KO Gennady Golovkin in their trilogy fight to bring a concussive end to their rivalry.

The pair fought to a controversial draw in their first meeting in 2017 before Canelo edged their rematch the following year.

Canelo was due to face Billy Joe Saunders next month but that fight has been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus crisis.

In the meantime, the Mexican has agreed to fight Golovkin for a third time in September, assuming the pandemic has abated.

And Canelo's coach Eddie Reynoso has explained his fighter's gameplan should they meet again.

"If that fight comes to fruition - Canelo with Golovkin - Canelo will undoubtedly win by knockout," he told ESPN.

"We are going to look for the fight like we did in the [rematch], from the very beginning, to try to put him on the back foot, but this time things are going to be very different.

"This time we are going to knock him out, we are promising that will happen to all of the people who believe in us."

Golovkin, who turned 38 yesterday, beat Steve Rolls in his comeback fight following his defeat by Canelo.

He then edged out Sergiy Derevyanchenko to win back one of his middleweight world titles.

The Kazakhstan is due to face mandatory challenger Kamil Szeremeta but that may be put back to allow him to face Canelo.
