It had to be written in pink. And so it was. Bright and vibrant, on top of the roof of Sue Washington's Chisholm home - "Thank U" - complete with a big love heart. It was a heartfelt message to the waterbombing and fire-spotting aircraft that fly so regularly overhead.

Sue, who only admits to being "old enough to know better" than to be scrambling on to her roof, said the rooftop message went with her regular "thank yous" shouted to the heavens as the giant waterbomber, particularly, flew over, on its way to drop bright pink fire retardant on to the fires burning to the south-west of the Canberra suburbs.
"I feel quite safe where I am but I just wanted to say 'thank you'," she said.
"It's such an emotional time and it just feels never-ending. Just when you think your heart is mending, something else happens."

Sue is well-known for being the ultimate Canberra Raiders fan, her Hyundai sports car wrapped in images of the Green Machine.
She made her own effort for bushfire relief, driving the car up to Coffs Harbour, which had bushfires as far back as November, dropping off Raiders memorabilia to affected families and children.
"You see the pictures but until you drive through and see it and smell it and walk through the ash, you have no idea," she said.
"I mean I was crying over a dead goanna who'd struggled to get off the road. It's heartbreaking.":
