Canada Open: PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen in quarterfinals

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen moved into the quarterfinals of the Canada Open BWF Super-500 tournament in Calgary on Thursday. Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala and Krishna Prasad Garaga lost their men's doubles second round match to Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia 9-21, 11-21.

While Japan's Natsuki Nidaira gave a walkover to Sindhu, Lakshya trounced Ygor Coelho of Brazil 21-15, 21-11. Coelho worked hard in the first game and stayed close to Lakshya till the 13th point. From 15-14, Lakshya moved clear of his opponent.

Lakshya toyed with his rival in the second game. He won nine consecutive points from 3-2 and from 12-4 another four points to seal the issue. The world No. 19 will face world No. 62 Julien Carraggi of Belgium in the quarters.

From the top-half of the draw, third seed Kodai Naraoka and fifth seed Li Shi Feng of China reached the last eight. While Naraoka faces Chinese qualifier Lei Lan Xi, Li plays Koki Watana be of Japan.

Sindhu plays Gao Fang Jie in the quarterfinals. The Chinese enjoys a3-0 record against Sindhu with the last victory coming at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship.
