Can the public attend the Queen's funeral?

The Queen’s funeral service will be private with 2,000 guests paying tribute at Westminster Abbey. However, thousands are expected to line the Mall to Buckingham Palace as the funeral procession takes place at the end of the service.

Around 2,000 heads of state, dignitaries, European royals, and other key figures will be invited to Westminster Abbey for the Queen’s funeral. Millions more will pay their respects by watching the service on TV.

Ahead of the funeral the coffin will rest at Westminster Hall for four days and will be moved the short distance to Westminster Abbey on the morning of the service. After the funeral a full military procession will accompany the coffin down The Mall.

Thousands are expected to gather along the Mall to pay their respects as the State Gun-Carriage carrying the coffin is pulled along by Royal Navy ratings, Mirror reports. The procession will end at Hyde Park Corner, with the coffin transported to Windsor Castle by road for the committal service at St George's Chapel.

When is the Queen’s funeral?

The Queen’s funeral is expected to take place on Monday, September 19, although this date has not yet been confirmed. There will be a minute's silence as the funeral cortege arrives at Westminster Abbey at 11am. Big Ben will chime a muffled bell at 9am to mark the start of the day.

Can the public attend the Queen’s funeral?

While no members of the public will be allowed to attend the service in Westminster Abbey or the private committal service at St George's Chapel in Windsor, huge crowds are expected to gather along the Mall from the Abbey. The Mall’s bollards will be removed to make space for mourners, according to reports.

Members of the public are invited to pay their respects to the Queen ahead of the funeral as she lies in state in Westminster Hall. They will be allowed to file past the coffin, which will be guarded by soldiers from the Royal Household.

Will the Queen be buried with Prince Philip ?

The Queen’s final resting place will be within St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. She will be buried alongside her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and her sister Princess Margaret.

Prince Philip, her late husband, will be moved from the Royal Vault to join her in St George's Chapel, the couple’s final resting place.
