‘Can’t fool us’ - Manchester United fans have theory on Erik ten Hag’s reaction to Cody Gakpo question

Manchester United supporters believe Erik ten Hag’s reaction to a question about Cody Gakpo suggests that a deal might be on its way.

The Reds have been continually touted with a move for the Dutch attacker since it emerged that talks between the player and the club broke down during the summer. Gakpo later admitted his disappointment at not being able to finalise a move but has kicked on with 13 goals and 17 assists for PSV this season.

He caught the eye at the World Cup by scoring in each of the Netherlands’ World Cup group games while mostly playing as a centre-forward. Ten Hag has admitted he wants a striker in January following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ten Hag responded by saying: "He (Van Nistelrooy) can say that about many players." United supporters believe Ten Hag’s wry smile and coy comments indicate that something may be in the pipeline regarding Gakpo.

Many on Twitter took encouragement from his responses, hoping that a deal can be struck.
