On July 3, 2025, Can-Am parent company Bombardier Recreational Products issued a voluntary safety recall for its 2025 Canyon three-wheelers in the US market. This includes all variants of the Canyon, including the XT and Redrock. The issue relates to a potential for belt failure on this belt-driven machine, but the reason for the recall is a component in the belt assembly, rather than the belt itself.
Approximately 843 Canyons may be affected by this recall, which represents 100% of the population. This is a recall for every 2025 Can-Am Canyon sold in the US.
If you own a different Can-Am three-wheeler model that is NOT the Canyon, please be aware that this recall only applies to a component used on the Canyon. It does not apply at this time to any other models.
According to BRP's records, the issue relates to a wrong material having been used in the construction of the drive belt lower idler support. As a result, it is not necessarily strong enough to withstand the stresses required of it to operate this vehicle in all conditions, including the act of downshifting. As such, it may fail in operation.
If this component fails, the pulley can then freely move around the drive belt. This, in turn, could lead to a loss of drive power, as well as damage and noise right before the drive belt fails and the affected unit loses power. This could increase the risk of a crash, and possible injury.
As of June 27, 2025, BRP has reported five separate failure cases related to this issue (with four in the US), but none of these failures has so far resulted in either accidents or injuries.
BRP planned to notify its dealer network about this recall on July 10, 2025, and also plans to notify registered owners of 2025 Can-Am Canyons about this recall on or about July 25, 2025. This initial notification will inform them of the problem and what will be done about it. On August 15, 2025, BRP will send a second recall notification to owners informing them about the remedy scheme through authorized BRP dealers.
As part of the recall service, which will be performed free of charge to customers, authorized BRP dealers will install a new drive belt lower idler support designed with stronger materials and a different design. The new design, says BRP, will allow for the pulley to still remain in place, so that it does not become loose and risk damaging the entire drive unit. Future versions of the Can-Am Canyon will utilize this revised part as well.
