Camila Cabello has apologised to Prince William and Kate Middleton after revealing she stole something from Kensington Palace during a visit last month - prompting a response from the royal family.
During an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast with Greg James, Cabello recalled being dared by the show's host to steal a pencil during a visit to the palace as part of the Radio 1 Teen Heroes event.
“And I was like, you triple-doggy-dare me?” Cabello said. “And you can’t not do a triple-doggy-dare. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my life, it’s that. So I did it.”
According to the Senorita singer, after James told palace staff of the theft, Cabello put the pencil into her mother’s purse so she wouldn’t get in trouble.
And despite her mother’s insistence that they had to give back the pencil, Cabello explained that it was a “triple-doggy-dare” and she “had to take the pencil”.
“So I still have it. I’m sorry William and I’m sorry Kate,” Cabello said, before adding that she “couldn’t sleep last night” because she had to “get it off my chest”.
The singer’s admission and apology prompted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to respond via the official Kensington Palace Twitter account.
Replying to a clip of the interview shared on Twitter by BBC Radio 1, the palace responded with a singular side-eye emoji - which has been liked more than 2,000 times.
In response to the ominous reply, James tweeted: “Uh oh.”
The humorous exchange has people on social media amused, with one person calling it the “best moment of my Twitter existence”.
