Cambuslang Rangers' form is bad news for opponents, says Callum McLean

Cambuslang Rangers defender Callum McLean says his side are learning from each other all the time – and that spells bad news for opponents.

The Wee Gers’ free-scoring season continued on Saturday when they thumped Carluke Rovers 6-1 in the South Challenge Cup, with a Scott Williamson hat-trick and Gordon Dick double added to by a strike from Kiegan Parker.

That’s 11 wins on the bounce for Billy Campbell and Paul McColl’s men, and McLean says they’re gelling very well as a team and a squad.

The full-back said: “It’s a good group of boys, they’ve all gelled well from the beginning of the season.

“Wee Scott’s banging them in and there are goals coming from everywhere, really, so it’s good.

“It was a slow start in the first game but that was the first game when we had all played together, really.

“We had a few friendlies, but you’re mixing it up all the time, and since then we’ve gelled really well.

“As you can see, we’ve not looked back.

“I think it’s just the players, there’s a good mix of experience and youth, and everyone can learn from guys like John Gemmell, Gordon Dick and Tony Stevenson, who all have experience at a good level, and all the young ones can learn from them.

“The young ones have legs, they’re all quick players, and there are some really good players for their age as well.”

Next up for Cambuslang is Kello Rovers in the West of Scotland League Conference B at home on Saturday, and McLean says the approach is no different.

Despite their run of form, Camby are second in the table and two points behind the leaders St Cadoc’s -– the only side to beat them so far this season.

They do have a game in hand against Gartcairn, which was postponed after a Covid outbreak at the Airdrie club last month, to come on September 29, so the focus is on keeping the pressure on their rivals.

The former East Kilbride Thistle man said: “It would be great to go back on top of the league.

“We set out to win every game, and Saturday will be no different – we’ll be looking to score a lot of goals again, it’s just the way we play – and hopefully we won’t concede.

“We’re confident of beating anybody just now, no matter what league they’re in, and Kello will be no different.

“Obviously they’re down at the bottom end of the league, so we should be looking to take three points.

“But we’re going to respect them, and we will just go out there to do the job, like the managers set out for us to do.”
