Cambuslang Rangers fans playing their part in fine start, says co-boss Campbell

Co-boss Billy Campbell says the Cambuslang Rangers fans have played their part in taking the team to the top of West of Scotland Conference B with their fantastic support this season.

Camby had a great turnout at Somervell Park as the club recorded a thumping 8-0 win over Carluke Rovers, with a Scott Williamson hat-trick, a Gordon Dick double plus strikes from Ryan Stewart, Paul Gordon and Tony Stevenson providing value for money

It keeps Camby at the summit, one point clear of St Cadoc’s at the halfway point in the campaign.

And Campbell said: ”The supporters have been fantastic this season and we don’t take it for granted.

“It makes a real difference to the players and management team on matchdays, and their support has been excellent.

“Hopefully we are doing our bit to entertain them, but the backing they give us doesn’t go unnoticed.

“They make for a better atmosphere for everyone and they’ve helped us get to where we are.

“It is a really tight league. And I say to the guys every week, I don’t care if it’s 1-0 or 8-0, Paul [McColl, the co-boss] and I will take a win in whatever shape or form it comes.

“If we score goals and play really well that’s great, but you’ve got a game to win first and foremost.

“As a management team we are very happy with the result and it’s another three points gained.

“I thought we started the game well, created half a dozen good chances in the first 15 minutes and their keeper had some great saves.

“But we managed to get ourselves on the front foot and get a couple of goals.

“The biggest thing that is pleasing Paul and I is the workrate. The guy’s work off the ball as well as creating chances is top level.”

Fans and players alike took a moment to remember club sponsor Sean Ward before kick-off, after the Lang supporter passed away suddenly at the age of 51 last month.

And Campbell added: “I’d like to say thanks to the players, the committees and the fans of both clubs for the respect shown for Sean at Somervell MOT.

“He was both a friend and a sponsor of the club, and it was great to see the support everyone gave with the minute’s silence on Saturday.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this extremely difficult time.”
