Calvin Ramsay makes rare appearance as Liverpool midfielder makes injury return in defeat

Liverpool Under-21s' poor run of form in the Premier League 2 continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Kirkby.

An early goal from Victor Akinwale in the fifth minute was the difference between the two teams. It means that Barry Lewtas’ side have now lost their last three league fixtures, and now lie in sixth place in the PL2 table.

Calvin Ramsay played the full 90 minutes for Liverpool in the game at Kirkby. The young right-back, who was signed from Aberdeen in the summer, has not played a first-team match since featuring in the Carabao Cup tie against Derby County on November 9.

Another young starlet played for Liverpool on Sunday, with Ben Doak likewise featuring for the full 90 minutes. The talented 17-year-old last featured for Jurgen Klopp’s senior team in the FA Cup replay against Wolves as a substitute.

The match also saw Melkamu Frauendorf take part, where he played for 76 minutes before being replaced by Fidel O’Rourke, who has only recently returned from his loan spell with Caernarfon Town. Frauendorf was withdrawn from the midweek win over Braga in the Premier League International Cup through injury, but the midfielder recovered in time to play on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool’s next match sees them face an away trip to Wolves on Friday night. They will then prepare for another away match as they travel to Germany to play Hertha Berlin in the PL International Cup.

Liverpool U21s line-up vs Crystal Palace: Mrozek; Ramsay, Jonas, Koumetio, Chambers; Corness, Stephenson, Clark (Musialowski, sub); Doak, Frauendorf (O’Rourke, sub), Woltman (Blair, sub).

Other subs: Hughes, Olufunwa.
