Callum Wilson claps back at Arsenal mind games and says 'title race is already over' amid Xhaka spat

Callum Wilson has clapped back at Arsenal's time wasting antics at St James' Park and joked the title race is already Manchester City's despite the Gunners' 2-0 win over Newcastle United. Mikel Arteta's side have come under fire for their game management which left black and white supporters and players frustrated.

Wilson told The Footballer's Football Podcast: "Always the day after the game it's still fresh. For me you're still tired and the body from physically running around giving what you've given in the game, mentally and emotionally you're still drained as well.

"We're getting there slowly but I think that game reiterates we've still got a way to go because at the end of the day, we had chances, we had so many chances that could get us back into the game. At 1-0 you take one of those and it's a different game but we didn't.

"They game with a game plan which was to frustrate us, frustrate the fans. Obviously it's frustrating when you're in the moment and yeah we've done it in the past when you're that team playing away from home and trying to grind out a result. So be it.

"They've come and done the same thing and it is frustrating. To be honest the title has already gone anyway so I don't know what they're playing at.

"You know what, they're a good team and the quality shines through. Clinical when they needed to be, scored their goals and you can see why they're up there to be honest."

The Newcastle number nine had a disagreement with Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, who was down receiving treatment, with Wilson claiming there was nothing wrong with the Swiss international.

"Like I say, the game plan, he's just down with his groin smiling away," Wilson added. "There was nothing even wrong with him so I was like 'get up' and he was obviously just wasting time.

"I think everyone of their players went down at some point and they got the physio on or got up eventually after a couple of minutes delay. They obviously came with that clear tactic.

"When you're the home team trying to get momentum in the game, it frustrates you and you try to pick them up and he starts talking. You're from the streets and you don't allow people to talk to you like this off the pitch so I won't allow it on the pitch.

"It's one of those, it's annoying but you understand it and they got the result they wanted so fair play to them."
