Callum Hudson-Odoi's Chelsea request set to affect £85m Wesley Fofana transfer chances

Could Deja Vu be about to repeat itself in the transfer market for new owner Todd Boehly as the American eyes a trick that could eventually lead to the big money signing of Wesley Fofana.

The Blues have spent big so far this summer on five new first-team additions with Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella the pick of the three with the other two more ones for the future. All three featured in some form in the opening weekend victory over Everton. But it isn't just the incoming side of things that are heating up ahead of the September deadline. On the outgoing side of things, the new board are in the process of trying to shift the likes of Michy Batshuayi, Ross Barkley and Timo Werner out of the club.

You can now add Hudson-Odoi to that list with the Englishman ready to 'push' for a Chelsea loan exit at the very minimum ahead of the transfer window slamming shut. football.london understands that the player's decision to leave is more to do with the need to play regularly for his development. Interestingly enough, the 21-year-old despite travelling with the Blues squad, didn't make the bench for the Toffees affair and it is understood that the exclusion was the final straw that broke the camel's back in this situation.

Leicester and Southampton are the two frontrunners currently in this transfer race but it is expected that a few clubs across Europe may look to join this new pursuit of a player who once nearly moved to Bayern Munich in the past for big money.

For Boehly, his preference would be to build on a good rapport with Brendan Rodgers' side in the view that they can get £85m valued Fofana in the other direction, even if it is in two separate deals.

This is exactly what happened between Chelsea and Brighton only last week. The Blues were able to land Cucurella as a result of allowing youngster Colwill to go the other way so both teams won in the end.

With the Blues' number 20 not wanting a permanent exit, this would block a direct swap for Leicester's number 3 but trading with the East Midlands side, in this case, could hand Boehly an advantage in negotiations to try and get the best deal possible for the aforementioned French star.
