Call of Duty 2020 teaser seemingly confirms 1960s Cold War storyline

The special website Pawntakespawn is linked to Call of Duty (Picture: Infinity Ward)

The long-held speculation that the next Call of Duty game will be set during the Cold War period has been all but confirmed in a new teaser.

A new special website has gone live, which makes it seem incredibly likely that the new Call of Duty game will be set in the 1960s, changing direction from the future and modern CoD games we've seen recently.

While this period wasn't exactly filled with combat, we're sure that there will be some creative license and the game will have a classic Call of Duty spin.

Initially, the above website showed nothing but a countdown clock which then revealed an image, which had the following dates stamped as 14 August (when the teaser was revealed) and then 1961 - 1962.

Of course, the rest of the note was redacted.

This note was one of the first teasers to go live (Infinity Ward)

The website is now called pawntakespawn and there are multiple new hints towards the next Call of Duty game; you can even see what looks like a part of Warzone's Verdansk map in the background, which might be telling us where the game will be properly revealed.

If you visit the page, you're now greeted with a blank CRT TV and there's a video tape player which has the following dates listed on them:

  • 1972 - 73, this one is called V1.
  • 1968 - 69, V2.
  • 1961 - 62, V3.

Clicking on each tape loads it into the player and you see a bunch of old clips, some of which feature Ronald Reagan.

Also on the site, there is an image of a piece of paper which is referencing wars being won "behind closed doors", alongside other strategies and cryptic messaging.

The final piece of the puzzle so far is that there have been reports that some influencers have been sent mysterious boxes which contained an old-timey projector and some accompanying slides, all of which are nods and

Everything seems to be pointing towards a proper reveal, which we might expect in the coming weeks.

It also seems incredibly likely that the new Call of Duty game will be revealed inside the Warzone battle royale mode, being linked to whatever the mystery is surrounding all the bunkers found around Verdansk.
