Caledonian Braves new boy reckons Lowland League sides would challenge for League Two title

Caledonian Braves new boy Jack Smith has tipped the Lowland League to be more competitive than ever next season – claiming that most teams would challenge for the League Two title.

The 24-year-old checks in at Alliance Park with a wealth of experience in the fifth tier and reckons the standard is only getting better.

The striker hopes he can fire Ricky Waddell’s side into the top spots next term.

He said: “When I was at East Kilbride a few years ago the division wasn’t this strong.

“You look at Kelty, East Stirling and East Kilbride and thing they could easily compete in League Two; they could go in right at the top. So could a few teams in this division.

“We want to compete at the top end this season as well, and there is a good squad here.

“The league is just going from strength to strength, so hopefully I can help us climb the table and score a few goals.”

Smith admits he was sold on the switch from rivals Spartans by assistant boss Richie Salveta.

He added: “I know Richie well and he was really talking up what was happening at the club.

“At the end of the season, I felt like it was the right time to leave Spartans and I wanted to play closer to where I live.

“Ricky and Richie were in for me straight away at the end of the season. Sometimes that helps because you know they are keen.”
