Caledonian Braves boss in contract talks to bring back skipper Alan Reid

Caledonian Braves boss Ricky Waddell is still hoping to snap up captain Alan Reid for the Lowland League campaign.

The defender was plagued by injuries in his debut season at the Braves as he began his comeback just before the Covid crisis ended the season.

The 32-year-old has now opened the door for a move after putting his name on the PFA Scotland 'Availability List' for out of contract talent.

However, Waddell is still keen to retain Reid on new terms.

"We're discussing the details with Reidy [Alan Reid] just now," he told Lanarkshire Live Sport.

"We are hopeful of getting him back in, but there is a wee bit of work to do financially.

"Reidy is probably just keeping his options open. I felt like last year it probably didn't work as well as it could have done after his injuries set him back.

"When he came back he wasn't fully fit so we had to take that into consideration as well when playing him.

"We will talk a bit more with him this week."

"We are probably looking for a younger midfielder and a left-back," said Waddell.

"I've got one or two coming in. We've got a younger guy coming in and an older one, but we need to gauge what fitness levels they are at.

"We'll get them in for pre-season and have a chat with them.

"Left-back is an area we need to strengthen but ideally it would be someone of a good age with a lot of potential."
