Cadillac details new F1 upgrade package for Canadian GP

The Cadillac Formula 1 team has revealed its newest upgrade package for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.

The squad’s maiden F1 car, the MAC-26, was fitted with an updated front wing, floor, diffuser and rear suspension – among other parts – at the Miami Grand Prix.

Qualifying performance was mixed in Florida – a 0.3s deficit to the Q2 cutoff time in sprint qualifying ballooned up to 1.7s on Saturday – but Sergio Perez briefly challenged the midfield in races before finishing 15th and 13th.

“We are in a massive hurry to find performance because we know Aston is going to be improving and we don't want to be left behind,” Perez then said, and Cadillac’s newest package shows the American outfit is wasting no time.

In Canada, the MAC-26 will receive “new front brake drums, diffuser trim and winglets, and front torsion bars, which will improve the car’s ability to ride steep curbs, such as those at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve”, as per Cadillac’s press release.

The team therefore hopes to build on the Miami upgrade, “which resulted in a notable increase in performance,” team principal Graeme Lowdon said.

“Miami was a very enjoyable weekend,” Perez added. “We had improved pace from the start, and we showed our ability to bring major upgrades that delivered on track. This is really encouraging.

“Now it’s about refining what we have and extracting the real potential in all elements. There were definite flashes of real progress, and we need to put it all together at the same time. If we can do this, I believe we’ll be closer to the pack in front.”
