Cadbury Dairy Milk products recalled over potentially deadly bacteria contamination fears

Some Cadbury Dairy Milk dessert products have been recalled over fears they may contain listeria - which can lead to meningitis or even death in people with weakened immune systems.

Müller UK is recalling the Cadbury Dairy Milk Cheesecake and Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel Cheesecake products as a precautionary measure.

The bacterium listeria monocytogenes can lead to more severe infections, such as listeriosis, meningitis and sepsis.

It can lead to death if left untreated in elderly people, pregnant women and unborn babies and those with weakened immunity.

Up to 20 percent of susceptible people have died because of infection after contracting listeria.

Müller says no other products are affected.

The products include:

Cadbury Dairy Milk Cheesecake

Pack size - 2 x 85g

Use by - June 5, June 6, June 11, 2019

The NHS says symptoms are similar to the flu, and can include high temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or above, muscle aches and pains, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

The company said: "Müller is recalling the above products.

"Müller produces these products under license from Cadbury and has stressed that this does not impact any other products it produces for Cadbury; or Cadbury Cheesecake variants in the UK or other markets.

"Point-of-Sale notices will be displayed in all stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products."
