BuzzFeed UK has continued recruiting from the ranks of established media by hiring the Sun’s Whitehall correspondent and a former Daily Telegraph assistant editor.
Emily Ashton, who joined the Sun in August 2011 after five years at the Press Association, will be the social news website’s senior political correspondent with a brief to break Westminster stories. She will report to BuzzFeed UK’s deputy editor Jim Waterson and take a leading role in covering the May general election.
BuzzFeed has also hired Robert Colvile, who joined the Telegraph in 2004 and was acting head of comment from October last year until August. As UK news director, he will be responsible for day-to-day news reporting, editing and planning and report to BuzzFeed UK editor Luke Lewis. Both journalists will start in January.
BuzzFeed UK is the site’s largest operation outside the US, with 17 million monthly unique visitors and the fastest growing with nearly 50 employees.
