Butlin's extends holiday parks closures due to uncertainty over UK restrictions

Butlin's has announced that it is extending the temporary closure of its holiday parks until mid-March due to the uncertainty of when it can reopen under government guidance.

The holiday parks giant had originally planned to reopen from February 28, but with no confirmation regarding the lifting of lockdown restrictions yet, this has now been extended.

Affected holidaymakers have been contacted via email, text or a letter. Options being offered include rebooking the same trip for 2022, moving to another break in 2021 or receiving a full refund.

A statement on the Butlin's Twitter page read: We understand this continues to be an unsettling time as we all await further government announcements. Given the uncertainty around a reopening date, we’ve made the decision to extend our closure period until 14th March.

"As always, we’ll be in touch via email, SMS or letter to discuss your options and you can also find more information here: https://www.butlins.com/reopening/booking-options. We’ll continue to follow the government advice over the coming weeks and update you via our social media channels and website.

"We thank you for your continued patience and can’t wait to welcome you back this year for some full on family fun! -The Butlin’s Team."

Currently there is a ban on domestic travel for Brits as part of lockdowns in England, Scotland and Wales.

As a result, holiday parks which would usually be open for February half term are keeping their resorts closed - we've got a guide on when holiday parks plan to reopen including the likes of Center Parcs, Haven, Parkdean Resorts and more.

Although there are no set end dates confirmed, there are hopes that schools in England could return from March 8, and schools in Scotland from February 22.

  • Travel restrictions apply during the pandemic. Always check government guidance before planning, booking or going on a trip.
