Busy main road in Prestwich shut after scooter 'goes through red light' and crashes into car

A crash has closed a busy main road in Prestwich.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Prestwich earlier this evening (Monday).

Middleton Road is shut at the junction with Bury Old Road.

A scooter is understood to have been driven through a red light before crashing into a car.

Several vehicles, including a moped, can be seen in the cordon, according to witnesses.

Police tweeted a photo from the scene, urging people to avoid the area.

GMP Prestwich wrote: "There is currently a scene in place on the junction of Bury Old Road and Middleton Road meaning the whole junction is closed. Please avoid the area and use other routes."

TfGM also posted on social media: "Travel update: Middleton Road is closed at the junction of Bury Old Road due to an RTC. Please find alternative route."

Details on any injuries of those involved have not yet been released by police
