Glasgow street locked down as police negotiators arrive at ongoing incident

A street in the city centre of Glasgow was sealed off by police this morning.

Emergency services - including cops, ambulance and fire crews - were dealing with a disturbance on Union Street, near Central Station.

A large section of the road between Gordon Street and Argyle Street had been closed off by officers.

A police cordon was put in place as officers stood guard following the incident.

Cops received the call at around 12.40am amid reports of concern for a man who was standing on a ledge of the building.

Officers, including police negotiators, were in attendance.

The man was moved to safety and has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Union Street has now reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.55 am on Friday, 30 July, 2021 a man was moved to safety by police following an incident at a hotel on Union Street in Glasgow City Centre in the early hours of this morning.

"He has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary as a precaution. Enquiries are continuing.

"Union Street has re-opened."
