Alert downgraded for bushfire at RAAF air base north of Perth

Smoke shrouded RAAF Base Pearce after a nearby bushfire triggered an emergency warning.

A bushfire that was threatening lives and homes and the Pearce Royal Australian Air Force base in Bullsbrook, north-east of Perth, has been downgraded to an advice.

The bushfire started near Almeria Parade and was reported to authorities at 12:30pm.

There is still a lot of smoke in the area and drivers are urged to use caution.

The RAAF Base Pearce is the only RAAF airfield of its kind on the west coast of Australia and is being used as the WA base for the large air tanker firefighting aircraft during the bushfire season.

It is also used by the Republic of Singapore Air Force, which has a squadron based there.
