Bus driver caught using mobile phone while driving in Dublin city centre

A dozy bus driver will be left counting the cost of a foolish mistake after being caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel.

The driver was stopped by gardai in the city centre on Saturday afternoon.

Gardai issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice after spotting the driver holding the phone while driving.

Gardai tweeted: "DMR Roads Policing stopped this bus driver in Dublin city centre after he was spotted driving while holding a mobile phone. FCPN issued."

Elsewhere in the city, gardai caught a driver doing 181kmh in a 120kmh zone on the M1 near Lusk.

National Slow Down Day, a 24-hour Garda operation, which began on Friday at 7am, saw more than 1,000 speed enforcement zones put in place across the country.

More than 138,000 vehicles were recorded on Friday – with 255 drivers travelling in excess of the limit.
