Burnham tells his Greater Manchester mayor successor to ‘go further and do more’

• Labour candidate Bev Craig secured the largest by-election victory in British history, becoming the new Mayor of Greater Manchester .
• Ms Craig succeeded Andy Burnham , who vacated the role after becoming Prime Minister.
• Mr Burnham, her predecessor, challenged Ms Craig to “go further and do more” for the region, referring to her as the “queen of the north”.
• Ms Craig won with 47.15 per cent of first-round votes, securing victory after second preferences were distributed against Reform UK's Sian Astley.
• Despite a low turnout of just under 25 per cent, Ms Craig topped the poll in all ten local authority areas within Greater Manchester.
