'Bullying' dustmen caught on camera blocking in elderly couple's car with wheelie bins

An elderly couple have caught on camera the moment 'bullying' refuse workers blockade their car with nearly a dozen wheelie bins.

The footage, captured outside the pair's home, shows a small group of rubbish collectors deliberately surrounding a silver Toyota Yaris with the bins, with one of them saying,"Block that f****** car in'.

The clip, filmed yesterday (Wednesday, July 16), shows an ashcart pull up alongside an address in Oldham, Greater Manchester, from which three workers get out.

And, as they set about emptying a series of bins from a back lane, one gives instructions to arrange them tightly around the car which is parked against a nearby wall.

And the vehicle's owners, who are in their late 50s and early 60s and do not want to be named, say the bizarre incident is one of many which have sporadically occurred over the last decade.

"It started when they left two or three bins behind the car, so we asked them if there was any chance they could leave them round the back," the pair's daughter told the Manchester Evening News.

"Since then it happens about once every four to six weeks - it's become a recurring thing.

"It seems like it's personal, it's just, ''Eff you, we'll put them where we want'.

"My mum and dad are just fed up with it, but they just deal with it. They don't want to make a fuss, but I think it's bullying.

"My dad works until midnight every night and he has to go out and move all the bins.

"Why should he have to do that? It breaks my heart. It really upsets me.

"I just think it's disgusting. "

A spokesperson for Oldham council, whose binmen were recently praised for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, said, "This is clearly unacceptable behaviour.

"We'll be interviewing the staff involved in line with the council’s disciplinary procedures.

"Officers have visited the address and have apologised to the resident."
