Bulls feeling toll of hectic ALM schedule

Macarthur FC coach Ante Milicic is seeking a form turnaround in the derby clash with Western Sydney. (AAP)

Macarthur FC coach Ante Milicic will wait until matchday to finalise his team for Saturday's A-League Men's derby against Western Sydney as the Bulls battle a hectic schedule.

The visit of the Wanderers to Campbelltown Stadium comes just four days after Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Melbourne City.

That was Macarthur's second trip to Victoria in a week, after losing 3-1 to Melbourne Victory last Friday.

Milicic said travel, matches and Sydney's poor weather had made it tough for his team to recover and train properly over the past fortnight and it was taking its toll.

"We had two difficult away games in Melbourne plus the travel and then also with the state of the fields in Sydney prior to that, we haven't had the opportunity to do much training," Milicic said.

"We'll have to give them another 24 hours and see how they pull up on matchday and then we'll make a final decision to see who is available and who can participate.

"We'll go from there."

Western Sydney however head to their near neighbours on the back of a full week of preparation and a confidence-boosting 2-0 derby triumph over Sydney FC.

That victory over the Sky Blues was Mark Rudan's third in seven matches since replacing Carl Robinson, as the Wanderers threaten to make a push for finals in the back half of the season.

After their back-to-back Melbourne defeats, Macarthur are fifth on the ladder but Milicic is hoping the chance to extend a record of never losing to the Wanderers since joining the competition last season will give his players the lift they need.

"We're hoping that being a local derby there's a decent turnout for us and they're the games that the players want to play in," Milicic said.

"Regardless of the recent results that we've had I'm expecting a good performance."

Rudan is also expecting Saturday's atmosphere to reflect a rivalry which may be in its infancy compared to that between the Wanderers and Sydney FC but has quickly grown in importance to both clubs.

"We need to go out there and perform and behave and have the attitude like it is a big derby game," Rudan said.

"That's what I expect from them."

A call on whether ex-England international Jack Rodwell makes his return from a hamstring injury will be made on Saturday, Rudan said.
