CHICAGO _ Short of Derrick Rose exiting his courtside seat Sunday to suit up for the Bulls, this game could not have more weird.
At one point Robin Lopez hugged Boston's Jae Crowder and then began untying Crowder's shoe.
Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg used 10 players in the first quarter in a desperate search for a point guard _ and then dusted off Isaiah Canaan, who played well enough to become a fan favorite.
In the end it was the other Isaiah _ 5-foot-9 superstar Isaiah Thomas _ who proved impossible to guard his team's 104-95 victory at the United Center on Sunday. The series is tied, with the home team going 0-4. Game 5 will take place Wednesday night in Boston.
The Bulls trailed by as many as 20 points in the second quarter but took a 65-63 lead on a Lopez hook shot. Boston responded with a 12-0 run, with Thomas alternating spectacular finishes at the rim with primo feeds to big men.
The Bulls threatened in the fourth quarter but were hurt by two substandard plays by Dwyane Wade. He missed a driving layup and then undershot Jimmy Butler on a pass.
Thomas finished with 33 points and seven assists, and Gerald Green, the surprise starter in Game 3, came through with 18 points.
Jimmy Butler had 33 points _ going 19-for-23 from the line _ in the losing effort.
