SALT LAKE CITY _ Chicago Bulls coach Jim Boylen had a simple desire Saturday night: "Try to have them call the first timeout, not us."
Request denied.
Boylen signaled for the game's first timeout after his team got beat in transition to fall behind 14-8. But unlike Friday, when the Golden State Warriors mopped the floor with the Bulls, this game was competitive until late.
The Bulls took a one-point lead with just under eight minutes to play on a Lauri Markkanen jumper. But the rim seemed to shrink down the stretch as the Bulls failed to score for nearly three minutes.
The Jazz pulled away and won 110-102, handing the Bulls their seventh straight loss.
Five Bulls scored in double figures, but no one topped Zach LaVine's 21 points on 7-for-21 shooting.
Donovan Mitchell had 34 for the Jazz, and former Bull Kyle Korver did his thing, making 4 of 8 from downtown and finishing with 16 points.
Bobby Portis missed the game with a sprained right (shooting) elbow after getting tangled up with the Warriors' Kevin Durant on a screen Friday night.
The result was that Jabari Parker got some run, appearing for just the second time in the Bulls' last 14 games.
Parker showed some lax defensive tendencies early, declining to help as Mitchell glided in for a layup. But Parker was decent enough on defense after that, and he knocked down three shots _ a 17-foot jumper, a make with a nice lefty finish and a 3-pointer _ in his five attempts.
He was on the floor when the Bulls rallied from 10 down to take a 35-33 lead.
He got a high five from Boylen when he returned to the bench, subbed out for Markkanen.
Ninety minutes before tipoff, Boylen said Parker was "out of the rotation right now. He's working at it and he's practicing and it's hard to play all 11 or 12 guys. Everybody needs to keep working and growing and wait for your opportunity. When it comes, you need to play."
Parker finished with 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out two assists in 19 minutes _ his heaviest load since Dec. 10.
The Bulls led 89-88 on Markkanen's jumper but got outscored 22-13 the rest of the way.
Robin Lopez got a technical foul for complaining about a call.
Wendell Carter Jr. drew his second in as many games after elbowing a Jazz player while boxing out on a foul shot.
