Bulldogs tear up Lewis' NRL contract

Canterbury have ripped up the contract of Lachlan Lewis following the eBay NRL speaker scandal. (AAP)

Lachlan Lewis' case of the eBay speaker has cost him the final month-and-a-half of his Canterbury contract after he was sacked by the NRL club.

The Bulldogs confirmed on Tuesday night they had terminated Lewis' contract immediately, before it was due to expire at the end of next month.

The decision leaves Lewis without a club for next season as well as missing out on approximately $55,000 still remaining on his contract.

The drama comes after Lewis allegedly placed a speaker provided to the Bulldogs' in their hub by the NRL on eBay for sale.

"After issuing Lachlan a breach notice and following due process regarding his response, the club has decided to part ways with Lachlan, effective immediately," Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton said.

The club is committed to supporting Lachlan during this time and we wish him all the best for the future."

The nephew of league great Wally Lewis, Lachlan debuted with the Bulldogs in 2018 and made an immediate mark at the club.

However, he fell out of favour in recent years, managing just 13 games in 2020 and six games this season.

The decision comes after the Bulldogs also axed repeat offender Adam Elliott last week for being kicked out of a restaurant for having a toilet tryst with NRLW player Millie Boyle.
