The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers made significant moves on Day 2 of the NFL draft to bolster their wide receiver corps. The Bills, after trading down twice and out of the first round, selected Florida State’s Keon Coleman to provide quarterback Josh Allen with another playmaker and help fill the void left by Stefon Diggs. On the other hand, the Chargers traded up to grab Georgia’s Ladd McConkey at No. 34, aiming to support quarterback Justin Herbert following the departures of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Thursday night saw a flurry of wide receiver selections, with seven going in the first round, tying a record. The trend continued into Day 2, with 10 wide receivers being chosen in the top 37 picks. Notable selections included Washington’s Ja’Lynn Polk by the New England Patriots and Notre Dame left tackle Joe Alt by the Chargers.

The Bills made waves by trading their 28th pick to the Kansas City Chiefs, who selected wideout Xavier Worthy. Subsequently, Buffalo traded the 32nd pick to the Carolina Panthers, who picked wide receiver Xavier Legette. Despite these maneuvers, the Bills managed to secure Coleman in the third round, adding depth to their receiving corps.

Meanwhile, the Chargers orchestrated a trade with the Patriots to acquire McConkey, a receiver known for his polished skills and deceptive speed. The 2020 draft holds the record for the most receivers selected in the first two rounds, with 13 players chosen.

These moves by the Bills and Chargers underscore the importance of securing talented wide receivers in a league where passing offenses play a crucial role in achieving success. Both teams will be looking to integrate their new additions seamlessly into their offensive schemes as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
