Budget issues prompt Chicago State to drop baseball

Chicago State will end its baseball program. | AP

Chicago State, citing budget restrictions, will discontinue its baseball program.

“This decision was one that we didn’t arrive at lightly,” said Chicago State athletics director Elliott Charles said in a statement. “We are working diligently to support our student-athletes during this change.”

Scholarships for current baseball players will be honored for the duration of their academic careers.

No other sports will be affected, the university said.
