Bruno Fernandes makes Manchester United pledge fans will love amid contract talks

Bruno Fernandes has said he hopes to remain a Manchester United player for years to come amid ongoing talks over a contract extension at Old Trafford.

The Portugal international has had enjoyed a decent start to the Premier League season, scoring four and assisting two in eight games.

He has added a further four assists in the Champions League, including the sensational defence-splitting pass for Marcus Rashford's goal against Atalanta which started the comeback completed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

He has become an indispensable player for the Reds since signing from Sporting for a fee initially worth £47m in January last year.

In just a short space of time has already etched his name in the history books, breaking Frank Lampard's record of goals scored by a Premier League midfielder in a single season.

Jesse Lingard featured alongside Fernandes in the latest edition of 'Wingmen', the United duo drove round Manchester and fired questions to each other in a battle to avoid the forfeit.

Lingard quizzed Fernandes: "Do you feel like a Mancunian now?"

"Yeah a little bit, I will be more [Mancunian] I hope. I hope to be here, like you, for many years and with you for many years," Fernandes replied.

Music to the ears of United fans as the contract talks between the club and his representatives rumble on with reports suggesting he could extend with the club and see him earn £250,000-a-week.

His current deal keeps him with the club until 2025 and MEN understands talks are ongoing and there is confidence an agreement will be reached.

He will be looking to continue his fine form as United embark on a difficult run of fixtures with Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea on the horizon.

It is another tough task this weekend as fierce rivals Liverpool visit Old Trafford with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to right the wrongs of Saturday's 4-2 defeat to Leicester and avenge the defeat to Jurgen Klopp's side by the same scoreline.
