Bruno Fernandes hails Manchester United unsung hero in Everton win

Bruno Fernandes has hailed Harry Maguire as the unsung hero for his role in Manchester United's win over Everton.

The Portuguese midfielder stole the show at Goodison Park with two goals and an assist as his side came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory.

However, he believes the winning performance was down to the overall team display and in particular their formidable defensive work.

United had a 2-1 lead throughout the second half despite a dip in energy levels, before a key block from captain Maguire thwarted Everton deep into injury-time and resulted in Edinson Cavani wrapping the game up at the other end of the pitch after a swift counter-attack.

Fernandes hailed the team's spirit after a difficult week at the club and praised Maguire for his pivotal role in the win.

"In the second-half we need to keep a bit more of the ball but maybe because the confidence was a little higher as we knew we are doing well, sometimes we try too much to go forward," Fernandes told MUTV.

"The intensity was there, the right mindset was there. We did the third goal because we believed and of course we defended really well today, everyone.

"The last goal... if H (Maguire) doesn't do that takeout I don't go away with Edi to score the goal. So everyone needs to help and I think today was a team performance."
