Bruno Fernandes admits he snubbed Tottenham for "dream team" Man Utd

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has confirmed Tottenham were close to signing him in the past - but says that his preference was always Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

The creative playmaker finally made the move to the Premier League in January following months of speculation, and he has impressed so far, scoring twice and creating three assists in the division before football was suspended.

Much is expected of him when the season resumes later this month, but speaking in an Instagram Live video with former Serbian player Mario Gjurovski, Fernandes revealed he could have been lining up in the lilywhite shirt of Spurs.

"The first club that was close to signing me was Tottenham with (Mauricio) Pochettino," Fernandes said.

"But I don't know, maybe they thought the amount Sporting wanted was too much so in that moment Sporting decided they don’t want to sell.

"Tottenham came in the summer but Manchester (United) was in January. Maybe Tottenham came again in January, but when I knew Manchester was interested I just wanted to talk to Manchester.

"Manchester was my dream team in England so I am happy because I have the chance to go to a team that I always dreamed about you know.

"At that time (last summer) it was Tottenham that was closer to me. There were other teams from France and one team from the Spanish league, but for me, when I talked, the first team was Manchester."

Fernandes will be hoping he can keep up his fine performances as United attempt to challenge the likes of Chelsea and Sheffield United for a place in the top four.

They currently sit just three points behind the Blues with nine games to go, while they are also still involved in the Europa League and FA Cup, and will have a lot to play for in the coming months.
