Bruce Graham premiere will kick off Northlight's season

March 17--Northlight Theatre announced its 2015-16 season, the theater's 41st, on Tuesday.

The five-play lineup begins with "Funnyman" (Sept. 11-Oct. 18), a new play by Bruce Graham, whose plays "The Outgoing Tide," "Stella and Lou" and this season's "White Guy on the Bus" also premiered at Northlight. "Funnyman" is about a fading vaudeville star who attempts to reinvent his career. BJ Jones will direct the production.

Then comes Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's classic comedy of family disfunction, "You Can't Take It With You" (Nov. 6-Dec. 13), which will be directed by Devon de Mayo.

Terrence McNally's "Mothers and Sons" (Jan. 22-Feb. 28, 2016) plays through the winter. The drama is set in motion by a mother's visit to her late gay son's former partner and his new family. Steve Scott will stage the production.

"Butler" (March 11-April 17, 2016) by Richard Strand is next. Directed by Stuart Carden, three escaped slaves seek sanctuary in the Civil War-set drama.

Northlight's season ends on the weightily-titled "The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord" (May 6-June 12, 2016) by Scott Carter. In Carter's play, to be directed by Kimberly Senior, the three famous titular thinkers hash out issues in the afterlife.

Northlight Theatre is located at 9501 Skokie Blvd. in Skokie.
